Bi Visibility Month
September 2022
A Series of Events for the Bi+ Community honoring identity, creativity, and connection during Bi Visibility Month.
The "B" in LGBT makes up the largest percentage of people, yet it's rare to find spaces dedicated to the unique experience of identifying as bisexual+ (bi, pansexual, fluid). Bisexual folks often face “bi-erasure,” finding it hard to find belonging in gay spaces and in straight spaces. As a Bi-owned collective, we are eager to change this.
During September - Bisexual Visibility Month - The Optimist Collective hosted four events San Francisco bisexual+ community. Our intention was for participants to find connection & kinship, feel validated and seen, and cultivate creativity and mindfulness, leaving events with a new perspective of the power of existing beyond binaries.
We were proud to host 150 participants across these four events. Partners included SF LGBT Center & Millay Wine Bar (venues) and Lululemon & Field Notes (gifting). SF LGBT Center received such positive feedback about these first-ever bisexual focused events that The Optimist Collective was asked to be partners-in-residence at SF LGBT Center, hosting 6 workshops & discussions for the bi+ community during 2023.
